The CapitalTristate Advantage blog site has recently moved. Come on over, have a look, and let us know what you think.
The time has come for each of us to bid 2013 a fond farewell and with open arms welcome in 2014. Sometimes we struggle with letting go of what has taken place, an event or life experience we cannot change. We forget what has been done is past. Of course it’s important to always remember. But it’s also important to remember we cannot undo the past. As Abraham Lincoln once said “the best way to predict the future is to create it.” This is our time to plan ahead and create a better tomorrow. Time to make life less about being stressed, more about being happy. Time to remember to tell our family and friends we love them, and time to share a little something with a friend or neighbor. This is also a time to set goals to do something fun and experience an event or accomplishment with others. Time to define and set out to accomplish your personal plans that you have been wanting to complete. Time to make 2014 a bright year ahead. As you reflect on 2013, we are reflecting with you. Thank you for sharing 2013 with us. We look forward to welcoming in and sharing 2014 with you and all it has to offer!
Have a Wonderful, Safe, Bright, and a most of all Happy New Year! A year to remember: Google Zeitgeist 2013
We wish all of you a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
It’s a great time of year where we look around us and see lights and trees decorated, smiles and friends sharing dinner and drinks, laughter of children playing and anticipating presents. Sadly, it’s also a time many feel alone and lost missing loved ones. Some of us are without friends and family. Remember to extend a warm wish and invitation to others. We extend our warmest wishes to all of you. This is the time of year for giving, sharing, loving and forgiving.
May this holiday season illuminate your homes with laughter, love, success, and warmth. Be safe and have a bright and cheerful Christmas! From our home to yours!
Did you know Thanksgiving is celebrated in many parts of the world? While we celebrate Thanksgiving as a time to give Thanks for the blessing of the harvest, many other places around the world also celebrate a time to give Thanks. We celebrate our Thanksgiving on the fourth Thursday of every November. Canada also celebrates Thanksgiving, but on the second Monday of October. Can you list any other locations around the world celebrating a holiday similar to Thanksgiving?
All of us at CapitalTriState would to thank all of you for your support all year through. Have a safe and wonderful Thanksgiving Day.

Although many Americans see it as simply another shopping holiday, instead Veterans day is still very much observed in our country, as it commemorates a very important sect of our society: those who served in combat.
We at CapitalTristate are committed to supporting this nation’s veterans and we respect the valiant efforts and sacrifices that they’ve made to protect our freedom, and make our country a safer one. We are also involved in supporting the Wounded Warrior Project, a program aimed to raises awareness and enlist the public’s support for the needs of those returning from combat who have been physically, and in most cases very seriously injured.
In honor of Veterans Day, we would like to share a few fun historical facts about this very important holiday:
- Many still confuse them, but Memorial day commemorates those fallen in war, while Veterans day is largely intended to thank living veterans for dedicated and loyal service.
- Veterans Day was once called Armistice Day. Armistice Day was created to honor veterans of World War I.
- November 11, 1919 was the first day Armistice Day was celebrated. Germany signed the armistice slowing the hostilities of WW1 in the 11th month, on the 11th day, during the 11th hour.
- In 1947 Congressman Edward H. Rees (Kansas) introduced legislation to change the name of Armistice Day to Veterans Day in order to honor all veterans who have served the United States in all wars.
- Between 1971 and 1977 Veterans Day was celebrated on the fourth Monday of October.
- November 11 is both a federal and state holiday.
- At exactly 11 a.m., each November 11th, a color guard, made up of members from each of the military branches, honors America’s war dead during a heart-moving ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknowns in Arlington National Cemetery.
